Regional Director, Brooklyn
In 1996, Leon Dimaya was appointed Regional Director of the Lower Manhattan office for the New York State Division of Human Rights. He also served as Director of the Division’s Office of AIDS Discrimination Issues from 1997 to 2007. Mr. Dimaya joined the Division in 1990 as a Human Rights Specialist. During that time, he also served as a Network Manager in the Office of Sexual Harassment Issues and in the Upper and Lower Manhattan Regional Offices.
Prior to joining the Division, Mr. Dimaya served as Legal Officer and Senior Special Investigator at the Legal Aide and Counseling Division of the Commission on Human Rights in his native country of the Philippines, and as a Special Assistant to the Provincial Attorney with the Provincial Government of Batangas.
Mr. Dimaya holds a B.A. in Political Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) from University of the East (Manila). He also took Human Rights courses at the University of Prince Edward Island (PEI, Canada), and Conflict Resolution and Mediation courses at Long Island University in Brooklyn.
